125th Birthday of Huey P. Long

August 30th is the 125th anniversary of the birth of Huey Pierce Long.  Self-nicknamed the Kingfish, Long was the 40th governor of Louisiana (1928-1932) and a U.S. Senator (1932-1935) until his assassination in September 1935.  He established the political prominence of the Long family, paving the way for the political careers of other relatives such as his brothers Earl Kemp Long and George Shannon "Doc" Long; his son Russell Billiu Long; and his widow Rose McConnell Long, the first woman from Louisiana to serve as a U.S. Senator.
