December 5th celebrates the 117th anniversary of the birth of Walt Disney! Happy birthday Walt!
In celebration of his birthday, here's a list of favorite Disney movies, from the St. Tammany Parish Library Bloggers!
stplbloggercovington- "My two favorite movies are The Little Mermaid and Mulan. I saw The Little Mermaid as a child and fell in love with her headstrong nature and rebelliousness. I love Mulan for her bravery, selflessness and overcoming adversity to become a great warrior and save her family and her people."
stplreferencemandeville- "My top two favorite Disney movies are Sleeping Beauty and Robin Hood."
STPL Reference Slidell- "Favorite: Beauty and the Beast- we finally have a situation where the woman isn't looking for a prince and she doesn't fall in love with anyone until she gets to know them. Plus she saves his life a bunch. Second favorite: Brave. It bucks all the traditions and it's a great story about parents and kids communicating and understanding each other."
stplkids- "My favorites: Sleeping Beauty because it is so beautifully animated, and Cinderella for the music. Plus all of the live-action zany movies they made in the sixties and seventies because I was a kid then."
stplbloggermadisonville- "Three favorites. Treasure Planet breathes new life into the Robert Lewis Stevenson classic, stars a male teen character with very real problems, and presents an antagonist who is more layered than his Disney ilk. It is an exciting adventure film with touching moments, and it's a film that deserves more attention.
"Atlantis: The Lost Empire is another underappreciated film that combines historical fiction with the supernatural and features a wide and unique cast. Mike Mignola's influence is everywhere in this film, from the combination of genre to the design, and considering I like the man's works, this film is fine in my book.
"Lilo and Stitch has some of the most grounded character interactions in any Disney film, and it's all thanks to writers like Chris Sanders, who would later work for DreamWorks and write/design for the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. Lilo and Stitch has fantastic art direction and some of my favorite alien designs of all time, and the popularity of Stitch himself shows how beloved this title has become."
stplbloggerslidell- "Aladdin has gorgeous architecture and scenery and has the nostalgia factor for me. Tangled has a lot of similarities to Aladdin's story and Rapunzel is really bubbly and fun. The Lion King has excellent visuals, story, voices, music, and everything else. It's the complete package."
stplbloggersouthslidell- "And as for myself, I love just about all of the Disney movies nowadays, but I'm really fond of Aladdin and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Aladdin is a great story about being yourself and Aladdin was my hero as a little kid. Hunchback taught me a lot about tolerance and acceptance, and it's got really great art and music. I also like Zootopia, one of the few Disney movies with an original script and setting not based on anything else, and full of amazing art direction and references."
