Hurricane Ida Resources

It has been nearly two months since Hurricane Ida—the second-most destructive hurricane to make landfall in Louisiana—hit as a Category 4 on the 16th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Ida wreaked havoc on Louisiana and on other parts of the country.  For those of us who lived through Katrina, it was another traumatic experience ranging from the loss of power, debris strewn about, and damage to homes and property. For residents who have recently relocated to Louisiana, they experienced their first hurricane and all that comes along with it. For some children who were either either not born during Katrina or were too young to remember it; it was a first experience that could be potentially traumatic and stressful. Many residents are still dealing with the aftermath of Ida and picking up the pieces after their experiences. We are here to help. The St. Tammany Parish Library has a collection of books that can teach about the many hurricanes that have made landfall in the U.S. There were several notable hurricanes that hit our area in the past and many authors who have written about their unique experiences. The St. Tammany Parish Library is here to provide resources to deal with the aftermath and ways to cope, teach and help with these weather-related phenomena that are a serious fact-of-life for the Gulf Coast and countless other coastal-regions each year. We have services that can help with the recovery process. Visit your local branch for books, materials and other resources or visit our website for more information at:
