February 20, 2018, is National Cherry Pie Day. Cherry pie and other fruit pies date back to medieval England. Some contend that Queen Elizabeth I baked the first cherry pie. However, as with Washington and his cherry tree, this is merely a popular myth. These early pies would not have included sugar, and it wasn't until the 1800s that sweet fruit pies became popular, especially in the United States.
