Picture Book Spotlight: Celebrating Nature and Wild Animals

Every October, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hosts a daytime event for families of all ages called Wild Things. It offers food, music, fun, and boat rides and teaches about the wildlife of Louisiana. This year, the event will be held on October 13, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southeast Louisiana Refuge Headquarters in Lacombe.

We have plenty of books about wild animals and nature. The greatest thing about nature is that you don't have to go far to experience it, just open your front door.

Where the Wild Things Are

This is the classic tale of Max, who puts on a wolf suit and becomes king of the wild things. He gives it all up to go back to his mother when he remembers that she loves him.

First Snow in the Woods

This book contains beautiful photographs of real animals in nature when the snow falls. The photography is simply magical.

Babies in the Bayou

Come and learn all about the wild animal families of the bayou and their behaviors.

We Planted A Tree

This is a wonderful story showcasing all the different benefits the greater community receives from planting a tree.

Welcome Home, Bear

Bear is tired of his home and roams around, looking for a new one. He meets a lot of animals and encounters many habitats along the way, but none of them are suitable for him. It's an easy to read book that serves as a great introduction to animal habitats!
