Teen Blogger Book Review – Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne

Thank you to Tori D., our new teen blogger, for her review on this debut novel from Alexa Donne, Brightly Burning.

This book was about how Stella Ainsley, a space cadet during an ice age, survives life on spaceships orbiting the Earth, all while dealing with romance. The main characters, being Stella and Hugo Fairfax, fall in love in this romantic sci-fi. Our characters, Stella, Huge, and more, are all going through life. They are all trying to see if humans may ever be able to return to the frozen ground of Earth, during this ice age that has lasted over 200 years.

At one point, the characters are rebellious against their strict government, because the government is killing people with a virus. The population of the book is based into social classes, similar to how they did in the movie Titanic. The government in Brightly Burning can’t really afford to stay in space much longer, with the immense population. So, they decide to infect the lower class citizens, the poorest people, to rid them of their problems. Since the characters are treasonous, they are exiled to Earth, where they have to figure out life all over again.

In my opinion, I absolutely loved this book. It kept you on the edge of your seat with anticipation. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves science fiction, and/or romance. If you liked the book Divergent by Veronica Roth, you’ll love this book!  ~Tori D.
