Junior Librarians Learn the Ropes

by Christa F. Chautin, Library Associate

The Summer Reading Challenge at the St. Tammany Parish Library awards prizes for reading to children, teens and adults. Every year children are awarded prizes for reaching the reading goal. Prizes this year included a book bag and a chance to be included in a weekly prize drawing to receive little extras with a space theme such as glow in the dark stars, constellation flashlights and slime. At the Slidell Branch, another prize was included to give some of the children who were randomly selected for the weekly prize drawing a chance to explore a cool occupation.

At the Slidell Branch, the kids chosen for the weekly prize drawing receive the extra prize, but they also get the chance to become a Junior Librarian!  Junior Librarian training includes a behind the scenes tour of the branch for the whole family and a chance for the Junior Librarian to scan and stamp their own books.
