Winter is coming.
Unfortunately, fans of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones will have to endure a significant wait until the final season quenches our thirst.
But like a traveler wandering through the desert, quenching your thirst can be akin to finding an oasis. Fortunately, the St. Tammany Parish Library can be that oasis!
If you are a fan of the show eager for new adventures in the land of Westeros, or an avid reader looking for something new, we are happy to suggest a relatively recent spin-off to the Song of Ice and Fire series: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Written by renowned author G.R.R. Martin, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a collection of three novellas, written during the 90s and 2000s, and chronicling the adventures of Sir Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. They include:
- Brilliant hand-drawn art by acclaimed artist Gary Gianni.
- Mr. Martin's signature sense wry humor and gripping drama.
- Clever character cameos for keen-eyed readers!
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms collects three tales: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Knight, and the Mystery Knight.
All three were originally released as contributions in select fiction anthologies: The Hedge Knight in Legends, The Sworn Knight in Legends II, and The Mystery Knight in Warriors. Incidentally, Warriors was also edited by G.R.R. Martin.
Of the three novellas, the first two gained appreciation for their later adaptations as comics. The Hedge Knight was published as a six-issue comic by Image Comics and Devil's Due, under the talents of panelist Ben Avery and artist Mike Miller. The Sworn Knight, also adapted by Avery and Miller, was published and distributed by Marvel Comics.
So, feel free to give A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms a read! Fans of the show will undoubtedly enjoy these excellent stories, and action-adventure and fantasy enthusiasts owe it to themselves to check out this awesome book.
