Material Display FAQs

  • General Questions

    Petitioning, solicitation, canvassing or similar types of appeals by members of the public are not allowed at the library.

    Distribution of literature or leaflets is not allowed at the library.

    The library, at its discretion, will provide reasonable space for announcements and notices of programs and activities sponsored by cultural, educational and civic groups. When display space is limited, preference shall be given to the library and library affiliated organizations. Most materials shall be displayed for one month only.

    The library acts as a distribution point for handout materials for public awareness.  These items must represent diverse points of view.

    Displays created by library employees should encourage the use of information resources and promote a positive view of the library in the community.  Where appropriate, all viewpoints on a given subject should be reflected.

    The branch librarian will consider the request for display in the order in which it is received.

    Display space is limited.  The library reserves the right to limit the size and  number of items on display.

    The library reserves the right to schedule displays and to determine the frequency an artist or organization sponsors a display.

    A statement of sponsorship must be included on all public displays. If the display is focused on a public issue, all aspects of the issue should be presented in an equal manner.  The branch librarian will determine whether the proposed display is balanced.  If the display is a collection of objects, prices should not be included.  The name, address and phone number of the display presenter may be made available to the public.
