  • Databases

    Most of the library's online resources can be accessed outside of the library. Materials are available for free 24-7 to library card holders. Exceptions are C, Jstor, and AmericanAncestors.Org.

    Unfortunately, most databases cannot be accessed at local schools. Databases that are allowed for use in schools can be found here.

     

     

    The library maintains subscriptions to several high quality research products that can be accessed online with a library card. These products are available 24-7 and are free to library users. To view a complete list of our resources, click here.

    With your library card, you can have access to online courses through Learning Express Library. This resource includes HiSet preparation materials, college entry exam materials for ACT and SAT, self paced computer tutorials, and much more. You can also access Pronunciator, a language  learning database that provides lessons for 80 languages. Need a tutor? The library also subscribes to Homework Louisiana, which provides online tutoring for grades K-College. These resources are free and available 24-7.

    Yes! The library has a subscription to Pronunciator, opens a new window, an online language learning tool that has lessons for up to 80 languages. Pronunciator is available 24-7 with your library card, and has interactive lessons, quizzes, and media such as videos and music. For some languages, Pronunciator provides live conversation classes online so you can practice speaking! This resource can be used on your computer or on a phone or tablet through an app you can download from your appstore.

    The St. Tammany Parish Library has a subscription to Ancestry Library Edition, opens a new window, AmericanAncestors.Org, opens a new window, and Heritage Quest, opens a new window. Ancestry Library Edition can only be used in the library. Please visit your closest branch, opens a new window to access this resource. AmericanAncestors.Org can only be used at the Covington and Slidell branches. For more information, please contact a reference librarian , opens a new windowat one of these branches. Heritage Quest can be used at home or in the library. All you need is your library card.

    To access online materials outside of the library, you will need an active library card. Please make sure to use your library card when attempting to access the library's databases. If you are still having trouble, please contact your closest library branch, opens a new window for assistance.

    Yes! The library has a digital subscription to The New York Times. You can access it from the library or from home. To get started:

    At the Library

    • Join your local library's wi-fi network or log into one of the library's public computers.

    • Enjoy access to The New York Times on a computer or mobile device.

    At Home

    • Find The New York Times in our Online Library, opens a new window.

    • Register to create a New York Times account or login to an existing account.
    • Enjoy 72 hours of uninterrupted access to The New York Times. Need more time? You can use the Redeem link as often as you'd like to get another 72 hours of access to The New York Times.

    Yes, we do! The library has a subscription to Learning Express Library, opens a new window, which includes self guided HiSet preparation courses that can be accessed online. This resource also contains ebooks and practice tests for the HiSet. Learning Express 3.0 is available 24-7 with your library card.

    The St. Tammany Parish Library subscribes to several services that provide downloadable eBooks, downloadable audiobooks, magazines, movies, music and TV shows. If you're looking for eBooks and downloadable audiobooks, you can find them in Overdrive, Cloud Library, and Hoopla. If you're looking for magazines, you can find them in the OverDrive Libby app. Movies, music, and TV shows can be found through hoopla. The library also has TeenBook Cloud and Tumblebook Library for kids and teens.

    The library subscribes to several services that provide ebooks and eaudiobooks in order to provide you with a wide selection of titles. Each service has its own lending period, limits for holds, and limits for borrowed items. Please see the list below to learn more about these services:

    Software Required: Yes, for both computers and mobile devices

    Hold Limit: There are no holds for Hoopla. All items can be borrowed at any time

    Software Required: Yes, for mobile devices. Software is not necessary for computers

    The PIN is your library card password. When you apply for a library card, you have the option to create a password to access your library card account online. You can use this same password for Cloud Library or Hoopla when you sign up for these services. If you don't remember your password or you did not set one up when you applied for your library card, please visit your closest branch , opens a new windowso we can assist you with creating a new password.

    No, all of your digital items will return automatically when they are due. There are no fees.

    The library subscribes to several services that provide content for kids. For example, Cloud Library, opens a new window and Hoopla, opens a new window provide materials for kids, however, you may have to assist your child in finding those materials as children may encounter adult content while using these services.

    If you're looking for kids only content, we have several ebook and eaudiobook providers that have dedicated children's collections. Overdrive's Kids eReading Room, opens a new window, Worldbook eBooks, opens a new window, Tumblebook Library, opens a new window, and TrueFlix, opens a new window offer kids only content.

  • Research Services

    The best place to start would be the Online Research , opens a new windowhome page. You can scroll down and select to search for research materials by subject or format. If you're already somewhat familiar with our databases, you may want to start with the A-Z Databases , opens a new windowlist. Two of our most popular databases for research are Gale Group Databases , opens a new windowand EBSCOhost, opens a new window. These two resources contain academic journals, magazine and newspaper articles, ebooks, and encyclopedia articles. You can start searching Gale Group Databases or EBSCOhost using a power search, which will allow you to search their entire collections, or you can choose a particular collection from a list of their information products.
