by Tanya DiMaggio, Children's Services Coordinator

Children, teens and parents enjoyed a special evening with author/illustrator George O’Connor at the Slidell Library on Friday, October 20. O’Connor spoke about the hard work that goes into researching Greek gods and goddesses as well as the writing and artistic process of producing graphic novels.

Mr. O’Connor is well known for his Olympians , opens a new windowbooks, an ongoing series retelling the classic Greek myths in comics form. In addition to graphic novels, he has published several children’s picture books, including the New York Times best-selling Kapow. Mr. O’Connor was warm, fun and engaging especially in his entertaining description of his relationship with the god Poseidon.

In the two days leading up to his library presentation, Mr. O’Connor also visited 4th, 5th and 6th grade students at Florida Avenue Elementary School and Mayfield Elementary School. Both schools prepared the students with lessons and activities about Greek mythology, writing, and Mr. O’Connor’s work.

It was an exciting couple of days! Those who missed the fun can watch a clip of the presentation.
