Library Resources for a New You!

by Noelle Williams, Reference Services Coordinator

Did you make any New Year resolutions? Determined for 2020 to be your best year yet? Then start your New Year off with a bang with your St. Tammany Parish Library card! At the library, we have online resources to help you accomplish your goals.

For those looking to get financially fit in 2020, Weiss Financial Ratings may be a great resource to get you started. The library is currently subscribed to Weiss’s Financial Literacy Basics and Consumer Guides. Available in print or as an online resource, the guides provide easy to understand financial information on topics such as managing debt, buying a car, purchasing homeowners insurance, preparing for retirement and making elder care choices. You can also use Weiss Financial Ratings to find up to date articles about financial topics and financial planning worksheets.

If you have several New Year resolutions, then Gale Courses is for you. Gale Courses provides online classes on everything from how to lose weight or play an instrument to how to start a business or use Microsoft Office programs. Each course has a live instructor, and opportunities to interact with other students in the class. Classes are six weeks long and new lessons are released twice a week to make it easy to set your own pace. Certificates are provided for students who pass the class. Interested? New courses will begin January 15th.

To get started with these resources at home, all you need is a St. Tammany Parish Library card. If you would like to learn more about these resources or need help getting started, you can visit one of our reference librarians.

Happy 2020!
