Winter Break Activities for Kids and Tweens!

Are you looking for some fun (and free) activities during this year's Winter Break from school?  The library has you covered with a variety of fun activities, from an interactive viewing of the movie Elf at the Slidell Branch to a "Noon Year's Eve" party for all Ages at the Covington Temporary Location.  See the full line-up here! 

Friday, December 20th, 2pm-4pm: Interactive Tween Movie Matinee of Elf! at the Slidell Branch Library.  555 Robert Rd. 

Escape the holiday bustle and join us as we do a movie interactive program of Elf (PG).For Ages 10-14 Please. Cookies, cocoa, marshmallows, candy canes, gum and pixie sticks will be served. Saturday, December 21st, 10am-12pm: Pokemon Showdown League for tweens ages 10-14 at the Madisonville Branch Library. 1123 Main St.

Are you the very best like no one ever was? Now is your chance to prove it! Battle Pokemon at the Madisonville branch for your chance to prove that you are unmatched. Tweens who make it to the semifinals and finals will build their own teams and battle to be the best Pokemon Trainer in the library! Online registration required. Register online here. Monday, December 23rd, 4:30-5:30pm: LYRCA Book Club for 3rd-5th graders at Slidell. 555 Robert Rd. 

Explore the 2019-2020 Louisiana Young Readers Choice Award (LYRCA) booklist with a monthly book club! Kids age 7-11 years (grades 3-5) will read a book from the list each month. In December, we can cast our vote for the winner!  It's Reader's Choice Month! This month book club members can choose a title from the 2019-2020 (3rd-5th grade) booklist that they haven't read yet. Everyone will get a chance to share and discuss the book that they read. Cookies and lemonade will be served and we will make a craft. Please inform the librarian of any food allergies at lease one week in advance. Friday, December 27th, 12pm-3pm: Storywalk for Families at the Northlake Nature Center.

Join us for a StoryWalk® featuring the book Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner.  This is a great way to get moving and have fun during the Winter school break! The event will be held at the Northlake Nature Center, opens a new window in Mandeville on Friday, November 27th, between 12:00-3:00. Families can stop by anytime but should arrive by 2:30 to be able to enjoy the entire story. The StoryWalk® will take about a half hour to complete, but the afternoon could be stretched out longer as families enjoy the trails at the center. The story offers a fascinating glimpse into the secret lives of a many animals including squirrels, hares, bears, and bullfrogs as they find ways to survive the winter cold. Monday, December 30th, 3pm-5pm: Family Movie Matinee at the Madisonville Branch. 1123 Main St. 

We're hosting a family movie matinee at the Madisonville branch on  Monday, December 30th from 3:00-5:00pm. Bring the whole family to watch Wonder Park (PG) and enjoy popcorn! You are welcome to bring your own snacks and blankets if you want to lay out on the floor. Registration is not required.  Popcorn and lemonade will be served.  Please alert librarian of food any allergies at least on week in advance. We are happy to make accommodations for you. Tuesday, December 31st, 11:30am-12pm: Noon Year's Eve Party for all Ages at the Covington Temporary Branch! 1200 Business Hwy 190, Ste. 2

Join us at the Covington Temporary Branch for a family friendly New Year's Eve Party: an all ages story time complete with music, crafts and a countdown to Noon!  No registration is required.  Children ages 9 and under may not be left unattended at any branch of St. Tammany Parish Library. Saturday, January 11th, 12:00pm-4:00pm: LibraryCon all Fandom Convention for All Ages at the Madisonville Library. 1123 Main St. 

Calling fans of all fandoms and interests including (but not limited to): Comic Books, Manga, Graphic Novels, Anime, Mario Bros., Pokémon, Tabletop Games, Video Games, Minecraft, Harry Potter, Dr. Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Nintendo, My Little Pony, Adventure Time, Cos-Play, Lego, Super Heroes, and anything else YOU are interested in! Costumes are encouraged and should be appropriate for a family event.
