Checking out a book at the library is a milestone everyone remembers. Having to return the book may be inconvenient for some, leading to delays in others receiving the book and possible late fees. When the library is closed, that becomes another obstacle for patrons reaching their reading goals.
Like the invention of 24/7 gyms, the library has a solution for finding resources during closed hours – digital media. Hoopla, opens a new window is one platform that provides digital media such as ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and more anytime of day and any day of the week. Each St. Tammany Parish Library patron receives an allotment of eight borrows per month on the platform.
For avid readers or those watching a series, eight borrows can dwindle quickly. Thankfully, the library offers six BingePasses to help with that issue. A BingePass costs one borrow and provides the patron with seven days of unlimited streaming of that select collection.
Patrons can make full use of six unique BingePasses. These include: Hallmark+, The Great Courses, BBC, The Ken Burns Collection, Puzzle Palace, and the Dove Channel.
If a patron wants to check out the same BingePass after the seven days, they can as long as they still have borrows available.
Bonus borrows save the day when patrons, near the end of the month, have run out of borrows but want to grab a new read or check out a movie. On Hoopla, select materials are labeled as Bonus Borrows during the last seven days of the month. Borrowing any of these items will cost zero borrows. It’s a great way to try a new book without worrying about losing a borrow.
