Frequently Asked Questions

The St. Tammany Parish Library subscribes to several services that provide downloadable eBooks, downloadable audiobooks, magazines, movies, music and TV shows. If you're looking for eBooks and downloadable audiobooks, you can find them in Overdrive, Cloud Library, and Hoopla. If you're looking for magazines, you can find them in the OverDrive Libby app. Movies, music, and TV shows can be found through hoopla. The library also has TeenBook Cloud and Tumblebook Library for kids and teens.

The library subscribes to several services that provide ebooks and eaudiobooks in order to provide you with a wide selection of titles. Each service has its own lending period, limits for holds, and limits for borrowed items. Please see the list below to learn more about these services:

Overdrive

Borrow Limit: 20 items

Lending Period(s): You choose--7, 14, or 21 days

Hold Limit: 15 items

Software Required: Yes, for both computers and mobile devices

Library Card Password Required: No

Cloud Library

Borrow Limit: 10 items

Lending Period(s): 24 days

Hold Limit: 15 items

Software Required: Yes, for both computers and mobile devices

Library Card Password Required: Yes

Hoopla

Borrow Limit: 8 items

Lending Period(s): 3 days for Movies and TV Shows, 7 days for Music Albums, and 21 days for ebooks and eaudiobooks

Hold Limit: There are no holds for Hoopla. All items can be borrowed at any time

Software Required: Yes, for mobile devices. Software is not necessary for computers

Library Card Password Required: Yes

The PIN is your library card password. When you apply for a library card, you have the option to create a password to access your library card account online. You can use this same password for Cloud Library or Hoopla when you sign up for these services. If you don't remember your password or you did not set one up when you applied for your library card, please visit your closest branch , opens a new windowso we can assist you with creating a new password.

No, all of your digital items will return automatically when they are due. There are no fees.

There is no limit to the amount of physical library items you can borrow at one time.

OverDrive has a checkout limit of 20 eBooks or downloadable audiobooks. The is no limit on the number of magazines that can be checked out through OverDrive.

CloudLibrary has a limit of 10 eBooks and downloadable audiobooks.

Hoopla allows five movie, TV show, music album, and comic book checkouts a month.

Physical items can be renewed once if there is no one waiting for it.

CloudLibrary does not offer a renewal function. If the item isn't on hold for another user, it can be checked out again.

Hoopla does not offer a renewal function, but items can be checked out again as long as your monthly limit of five checkouts has not been reached.

OverDrive allows users to request a title again three days before it is due through the "Request again" button. If another patron has the item on hold, the user will be placed in the holds queue. OverDrive magazines can be renewed with no waiting.
