Expanded Access Options for Parents of Minor Children
Parents and guardians are empowered with full control over what their minor children can check out and access with their library cards.
**YA Collection overhaul and creation of the Teen and New Adult collections:
Currently, the YA Collection is being reviewed and may contain material that could be considered sexually explicit as defined by LA R.S. 25:225. Once reviewed, items are recategorized.
- TEEN: Items with a TEEN call tag or label do not contain material as defined in LA R.S. 25:225.
- NA (New Adult): Are items that do have material as defined in LA R.S. 25:225. This material is part of the ADULT collection and requires a Juvenile Unrestricted or Adult card to check out. NA is intended for older teens and older, 18+, and has themes of young adulthood.
Digital Resources
Digital Resources are any book, e-book, e-audiobook, video book, essay, newspaper, magazine, film, or any other library material that is provided in a digital format. Materials in the Digital Resources collection may contain material that could be considered sexually explicit as defined by LA R.S. 25:225.
At any time, parents can change the limit level for their children. Parents can call a branch to make their child's card more restricted but parents are required to visit a branch in person to lessen restrictions of a card.
Below parents can download and review the updated minor card application. This form can be prefilled and brought to a branch for a card, however, parents must be present when turning in the application for their child.

Card Options at a Glance
INTERNET USE - For All Juvenile Cards
- Children ages 5-9 may only use a computer or access the internet with direct parental supervision in the library.
- Children ages 10-17 may only access the internet with parental permission.
Juvenile Full Restriction Card
Cardholders may only check out materials in the Children’s Collections (Call Numbers that begin with E or J).
Cardholders may NOT check out any materials in the Teen or YA collections (any item whose call number begins with Teen or YA) or any Adult collections, including magazines in the Teen area.
Digital Resource Access with this card
- (No Access) Cloud Library
- (Full Access) Hoopla ebooks and e-Audiobooks
- Hoopla ebooks and e-audiobooks are unrated. Parent must turn on Kids Mode in Hoopla to restrict these items.
- Hoopla Movies - Rated G Only
- Hoopla TV – Rated TVY & TVG only
- Hoopla Comics – Rated E only
- Libby – Juvenile Content Only
NO DIGITAL ACCESS (NDA) OPTION - May Not Access Digital Resources
NDA Library Card will not be able to access any of the following resources:
- Cloud Library
- Hoopla eBooks & e-Audiobooks
- Hoopla Movies
- Hoopla Comics
- Libby
Juvenile Semi Restriction Card
Cardholders may check out materials in the Children’s Collections (Call Numbers that begin with E or J).
Cardholders may also check out books in the Teen or YA collections (any item whose call number begins with Teen or YA)
Cardholders may NOT check out any materials in any Adult collections, including Adult non-fiction items that have a YA sticker.
