November is NaNoWriMo

November Programs for Adults

NaNoWriMo is an acronym for National Novel Writing Month.  The program began in 1999 in San Francisco.  The purpose is to encourage writers and aspiring novelists to set and achieve the writing goal of 50,000 words during the month of November.

This is our third year officially participating in the program, and we do so by providing Come Write In spaces.  A Come Write In space for us consists of scheduled blocks of time in all of our library branch meeting rooms where writers can bring their laptops, a notebook, tablet, or whatever they're writing on to toss around ideas with other writers.  Free internet access is provided, as are refreshments.  Sure, you could just stay home and do the same thing, but if you want to discuss your progress and meet other writers in your community, we're providing that space and time for you.

As an added bonus to this year's NaNoWriMo celebration, Tablet to Tablet, a beautiful and informative exhibit, is on display at our Mandeville Library, 844 Girod Street.  It's on loan to us from Calcasieu Public Library and Culture Fest Louisiana! for the entire month of November.
