SCHOOL OUTREACH

One of the ways the St. Tammany Parish Library supports St. Tammany Parish Schools and Educators is through outreach.  Below you will find a list of the types of School Outreach we provide.  For more information, you can contact one of our Children's Librarians or Teen Librarians. To request Outreach Services, please go to our Library Outreach Services page and fill out our Outreach Request Form.

OUTREACH FOR CHILDREN (Preschool through 6th Grade)

  • Booktalks - A librarian will present short summaries of high-interest, award-winning and/or Louisiana Young Readers' Choice Award titles.
  • Career Day/Fair Presentations - Students will learn about a day in the life of a librarian.
  • Hands-On Activities - Librarians will introduce students to the types of programs that they can enjoy at the library. Activities include Ozobot robots, bookmark making using an Ellison machine, and dot marker art. Contact a Children's Librarian to create a program that fits your needs.
  • Introduction to Library Services - Students and teachers will receive an introduction to all of the library's services for students including library materials, eResources, events, and our webpage.
  • Library Tour - Classes can come to their local library branch for a tour of all that the library has to offer.
  • Research Project Training - Students will learn how to use library resources for research projects in this customizable (by subject and grade) presentation.
  • Special Events - We are happy to visit your school for open houses, book day, cultural arts day, fairs, PTA meetings, etc. to share library information.
  • Storytime - Students will enjoy 30 minutes of books and activities based on a theme. Storytimes for younger students can include action rhymes, music, finger plays, and flannel boards.  Storytimes for older students can include poetry, trivia, Mad Libs, and drawing.  Contact a Children's Librarian to create a Storytime that fits your needs.
  • StoryWalk® - A StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children's book are attached to stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path. They are easy to put up and take down. To find out which StoryWalks® are currently available, make a request, or to find out more information, contact your local library branch or Children's Librarian.
  • Summer Reading Introduction - Librarians will speak to individual classrooms or assemblies to promote the library's annual Summer Reading Challenge for all ages.

OUTREACH FOR TEENS (7th through 12th Grade)

  • Booktalks - A librarian will present short summaries of high-interest, award-winning and/or Louisiana Teen Readers' Choice Award titles.
  • Books and Bites Book Discussions - A librarian will facilitate book discussions during junior and senior high school lunches.
  • Career Fair Presentations - Students will learn about a day in the life of a librarian.
  • eBooks, Mags, Movies, and Music - Students and teachers will learn how to use a library card to download electronic and streaming titles to your device.
  • Introduction to Library Services - Students and teachers will receive an introduction to all of the library's services for students including library materials, eResources, events, and webpage.
  • Introduction to the Databases - A librarian will provide a customizable (by subject and grade) lesson on how to access educational databases for research, classroom content, self-directed learning, and more.
  • Library Tour - Classes can come to their local library branch for a tour of all that the library has to offer.
  • Research Project Training - Students will learn how to use library resources for research projects in this customizable (by subject and grade) presentation.
