Next time you pass by Highway 190 in Covington in front of Home Depot BOLO (Be on the Lookout ) for Louis Prima Drive.  This area was once home to the Swinging jazz front man Louis Prima. He had a golf course named Pretty Acres near the old Heritage Lounge owned not by him but another man and was front facing highway 190 not far from the golf course.  Today Pretty Acres dog park is at the end of Louis Prima Drive.  Sounds like a swinging life, swinging golf clubs and swinging tunes abound Covington in the 1950s and 1960s . He played  in Bourbon street music clubs and bars in New Orleans in the 1950s where many other well knowns started off such as Dr. John, Louis Armstrong, and Harry Connick Jr.  Prima purchased his Covington property  in 1950s to raise two of kids, leaving New Orleans where he was born in 1910 to Sicilian parents to "settle down for a bit"  across the lake to a place perfectly suited for the King of Swing. STPL has a great collection of his recorded music, movie works, and books on this larger than life man.
