Kids Summer Reading Challenge

This summer there is so much to do at the library!  We will have a Reading Challenge, BINGO Challenge, Pin Club, and Programs for the whole family!
When you register you receive a Reading Log with Stickers, a BINGO card, the Summer Reading Event Guide, and a Reading Buddy stuffed animal! 
Pick yours up at your favorite branch library.

READING CHALLENGE BASICS

WHO: Kids ages 0-11.

WHAT: Your Reading Challenge goal this summer is to read for 720 minutes.

WHERE: You can track your Reading on a paper log or online using our Beanstack app. Reading Logs and Stickers are available at your favorite library branch to help you keep track.

WHEN: May 18-July 29

HOW: You will log every 15 minutes that you read. You can do it each day or you can save it up and log it weekly (or even monthly).

WHY: Besides being able to say you have read for 720 minutes, you will also receive a Completion Certificate and a Pop-It Toy for ages 4- 11 or a Rubber Duck for ages 0-3. For completing the Reading Challenge, your name will also be placed in a drawing for a LEGO set.

BINGO CHALLENGE BASICS

WHO: Kids ages 0-11.

WHAT: Complete an activity on a BINGO square and mark it off. Activities include attending events at the library, spending time with friends & family, reading, and submitting a book review!

WHERE: You can track your BINGO on paper or online in Beanstack. Paper BINGO Cards are available at your favorite library branch.

WHEN: May 18-July 29

HOW: Complete 5 activities in a row and earn a BINGO. Complete the whole card for a BLACKOUT.

WHY: Not only do you get to complete fun activities with your family and friends...there are PRIZES!  When you complete 5 activities in a row for a BINGO, you will earn a Squish Toy for ages 4-11 or a Rubber Duck for ages 0-3. Please note that you can only BINGO once. PLUS, when you have completed all of the activities for a BLACKOUT, your name will be placed in a drawing for a LEGO set.

DRAWING PRIZE INFORMATION

There are two opportunities to earn entries into the drawing, once when you finish the Reading Challenge and once when you complete a BLACKOUT. Your name will automatically be placed in a drawing for one of 12 Lego sets. Winners will be announced on August 7th!

PIN CLUB CHALLENGE BASICS

WHO: Kids ages 6-11.

WHAT: Read 5 books in a category to earn a prize pin of your choice. There are 6 categories: Adventure, Animals, Funny, Free Read, Scary, & Science Fiction/Fantasy. 

WHERE: Track your books online in Beanstack or using a Paper Log. Logs are available at your favorite library branch.

WHEN: May 18-July 29

HOW: Record the titles of the books that you have read on your log or in Beanstack.

WHY: Three reasons...

  1. When you register you receive a lanyard for your pins.
  2. When you read 5 books in a category you earn a themed prize pin of your choice.
  3. You can repeat a category up to 3 times & earn a different pin each time!

SUMMER READING EVENT BASICS

WHO: Kids ages 0-11 and their grownups.

WHAT: This summer will be filled with 6 weeks of fun-tastic programs. Events will include Storytime, Play Date, StoryTots, Storycraft, StoryWalks®, Club 8-11 (special programs for ages 8 to 11), Family Fun Programs, Movies, Read with a Pup, Special Guests and so much more!

WHERE: Each of our 12 branches will have programs for kids.

WHEN: May 30-July 8

HOW: To learn about our events, pick up a Summer Reading Guide at your favorite library branch after May 18 or enjoy our digital version.  For the most updated event information, visit our Events Calendar.

WHY: There will be fun-filled events that everyone can enjoy!  If you can’t make it to any of our events, we still have fun activities that you can do any time. From guessing jars to scavenger hunts, there is always something fun to do!
