Digital Resources for Students Available Through the Library

by Noelle Williams, Reference Coordinator

Summer vacation is almost over and it’s time to get ready for a new school year! The St. Tammany Parish Library has a variety of great resources available to help students succeed—whether you’re in grade school, college, or pursuing a professional license. We’ve listed some of our favorite digital resources for students below:

  • Learning Express Library – Having trouble with reading comprehension? Need to study for the SAT? Or maybe you have an upcoming civil service exam? Learning Express Library provides a variety of self-paced online courses, e-books, and test prep materials. Students from elementary school to graduate school will find resources that cover just about any subject. For those pursuing professional licenses, Learning Express Library also provides online courses and books for several occupational exams, such as the PRAXIS, NCLEX-RN/PN, and police officer exam.

  • Worldbook Online Encyclopedia – Based on the beloved print encyclopedia by the same name, Worldbook Online Encyclopedia provides quality information on many different topics. The online version also includes a Spanish language version; a student edition, which includes an in-depth guide to research; a first encyclopedia for young children; and an early literacy version that includes games, videos, and printable activities.

  • Homework Louisiana – Need a tutor? You can find one through Homework Louisiana, an online tutoring service staffed by teachers, graduate students, and degreed professionals. Tutoring is available for all learning levels, from elementary to the college level. Students can receive help for basic math and reading skills, tutoring for college entrance exams, GED assistance, and more! Students can even submit papers for feedback from a writing tutor. High school seniors and job seekers can get feedback on their resumes or get interview prep help.

  • TrueFlix – This online e-book collection provides easy to read nonfiction e-books on topics related to science and social studies for elementary school learners. Students can read the book, watch videos, and complete the interactive quizzes and activities. This resource also includes lesson plans for teachers. TrueFlix can be a great way to introduce new concepts to young learners. It’s available 24-7 and e-books in this collection are always available for reading.

As always, our reference librarians are also available to help students find the resources they need to be successful. You can drop by your nearest branch or set up an appointment in advance. We’d love to be a part of helping you succeed this school year!
