“The Launch” Of Summer Reading!

by Christa F. Chautin, Library Associate

The St. Tammany Parish Library is exploring outer space for the 2019 Summer Reading Challenge “A Universe of Stories.” The program’s kick-off is fast approaching with space-inspired events and activities. It is designed to inspire children of all ages to dream big, believe in themselves, and create their own story. A Universe of Stories SRC Launch will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.  on Friday, May 24, at the Slidell Branch and then again from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. the following evening, May 25, at the Madisonville Branch. The events kick-off the 2019 St. Tammany Parish Library Summer Reading Challenge.

The programs will include crafts, challenges, a glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunt, silent disco, LED hula hooping and more. Outdoor star gazing and a spacewalk will be available weather permitting. Attendees will have the opportunity to bring a telescope to the events. The Pontchartrain Astronomical Society and Mandalorian Merc Costume Club will also be in attendance.

“We are looking forward to this year’s launch and the space theme! STEM and STEAM are huge right now so it’s timely. Plus, who doesn’t love glow in the dark stuff?” said Jillian Boudreaux, Adult Programming Coordinator.

Both events are free and open to the public.
