Introducing The Times-Picayune Historical Archive!

by Shellie Lister, PR Librarian

Have you ever wanted to read The Times-Picayune issue from the day you were born? The library is happy to announce that The Times-Picayune Historical Archive is now available to library card holders and can help you do just that.

The archive offers PDF images of the actual newspaper so you can experience how much stylish furniture of the time cost or see the “latest” fashion.

The archive can be used for genealogical, school and historical research. Users can get a birds-eye view of such historical events as New Orleans during the Civil War, the arrival of the railroads, the summers of Yellow Fever and the onslaught of destructive hurricanes.

The Digital Archive begins with the first issue of The Picayune published on January 25, 1837.

To use the archive, visit The Times-Picayune Online.
