Picture Book Spotlight: Grandparents Day

National Grandparents Day is September 9, 2018 in the United States. These are some books that can be read with your grandparents!

Nana in the City The city can be a scary place, but Nana makes her visiting grandson a heroic cape to keep him from being worried. Nana shows him all the wonderful things she loves about living in the city, and he realizes the city is the perfect place for his Nana.

 

In Plain Sight Sophie's wheelchair-bound grandfather develops a clever game to play with her where he hides items in his apartment in plain sight. Sophie delights at the challenge of finding them each evening after school, creating a heartwarming way for them to bond. You can play "find the item" while you're reading the book together.

 

How to Babysit A Grandpa

How to Babysit A Grandma This is a two-fer by the same author, and they both go through some fun activities you can do while spending the day with your grandpa or grandma. They are written as how-to books.

 

Grandpa Bud Little Rosie is coming over for dinner at Grandpa Bud's, and she's bringing a few friends. He makes lots of food for everyone, but is surprised when he finds out they are all already stuffed animals!

 

Mango, Abuela, and Me Abuela speaks only Spanish and Mia speaks only English. When Abuela comes to live with Mia's family, they get a parrot named Mango to help her learn English and feel more at home.
