Introducing Children’s Librarian Haley Hampton

by Tanya DiMaggio, Children's Services Coordinator

The Covington Branch has a new children's librarian! Candace Perilloux had big shoes, but we are positive Haley Hampton can fill them! (Miss CC, as Mrs. Perilloux was called by her young patrons, has retired to stay home with her new family.) Miss Haley hit the ground running with the opening of the Covington Temporary Library. In just a few short weeks, she has created a big storytime following. Look out for some fun programming coming to the Covington Branch soon. Miss Haley recently graduated with her Masters in Library Science from L.S.U. We asked her to share a bit about herself.

Why did you want to become a children's librarian?

Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by kids and books all day?  A lot of people read Matilda and aspire to be like Miss Honey, but I wanted to be Mrs. Phelps.

What do you like to do for fun outside of the library?

I love trying new restaurants, attending lectures and going to festivals.

What is your favorite book for children? Or books, authors, etc.?

My absolute favorite children’s book in the whole world is Penguin and Pinecone: a Friendship Story by Salina Yoon. I like books with lots of color, magic (friendship is magic!) & humor!

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

Cocoa butter, a water filter, and very strong glue.
