New Classes Available This Fall

by Noelle Williams, Reference Coordinator

The St. Tammany Parish Library’s reference librarians are very excited to introduce several new classes this fall. Please check them out below:

Engage for Health

Do you have trouble asking questions at the doctor's office? Would you like to learn where to find credible health information? During this class a reference librarian will provide information about how to ask the right questions at the doctor's office and show you how to find reliable health resources in the library and online.

Intermediate Computer Organization & Personalization

In Intermediate Computer: Organization you’ll learn how to right click on the mouse, save and organize your files and folders, use external storage devices, find files and delete them. In Intermediate Computer: Personalization the reference librarian will show you how to use and customize the Start Menu, Taskbar, and other computer settings.

Mission Admission

This teen-focused program is all about helping high school students prepare for college. You’ll learn about resources that are available from the library to help you prepare for everything from taking the ACT and SAT to writing a research paper. Bring your cell phone, tablet or laptop for a hands-on exploration of exciting tools to help you get ready for your next step. This month we will be talking about library resources to use to prepare for the SAT and ACT.

Open Lab Mouse Skills & Typing Practice

Want to learn how to use a mouse? Need to brush up on your keyboarding skills? Then come join a reference librarian for Open Lab! In Open Lab: Mouse Skills you’ll use our hands-on lab for mouse practice using free web tutorials. In Open Lab: Typing Practice you’ll practice how to properly use the computer keyboard to type.

St. Tammany Votes

Are you overwhelmed by election ads? Not sure when the next election is or even where to vote? The library is here to help by demonstrating GeauxVote, the app/website portal that provides sample ballots and detailed information about upcoming elections. You can even verify that you are still registered to vote! We will also discuss additional resources, like Vote Smart, that will make it easier to identify the information you need to make the choice that is right for you

At the St. Tammany Parish Library we pride ourselves on providing quality informational classes and resources. Whether you’re taking the ACT for college, trying to improve your technology skills, or looking for the information you need to be an informed voter, the library has what you need to be successful.
