Ace Homeschooling With The Library’s Online Resources

by Noelle Williams, Reference Coordinator

Are you planning on homeschooling this year? The library has lots of great online resources that you can use to supplement your curriculum. Here are three of our favorites:

Pronunciator - Learn a language online with Pronunciator! This resource includes courses for 80 languages, learning guides for 3-6 and 7-12 year-olds, listening activities, and quizzes.  Don’t have a lot of time for language learning? You can try short daily lessons instead. This resource also allows you to create a free account so that you can save your progress in a course.

Homework Louisiana – Did you know that your child can connect with a tutor from home? Homework Louisiana provides online tutoring for students daily from 2 p.m. to midnight. This free resource provides drop-off math help for students struggling with a specific math problem, and drop-off essay reviews for those who need extra help with writing papers. Tutoring is provided for over 60 subjects.

School Center by EBSCO Learning Express – If you’re looking for extra practice exercises for geometry or practice essay topics for your student, then School Center by EBSCO Learning Express is for you. This resource provides practice exercises for a variety of subjects, and tutorials for middle school and high school students who may need to review a branch of math, like algebra, or a concept in English.

All of these resources are provided for free with your library card. You can apply for a temporary library card here. Need help? Then book a librarian! Librarians are available to assist you with your research needs by email. You can also visit our new Research and Online Resources page to see what’s new with your local reference librarians and view featured resources and library services for students and researchers.
