Plan Your Vacation @ the Library!

by Noelle Williams, Reference Coordinator

Summer’s finally here and that means vacation time! Whether you’re visiting another state or planning a trip to another country, the St. Tammany Parish Library can help. Below is a list of our favorite vacation planning resources:

  • Pronunciator – A great tool if you need to learn a language. Pronunciator even has an 8 week course designed to get you ready in a hurry. Have little ones? Pronunciator also provides age appropriate lessons for young learners. Some courses include short films, music, and online conversation classes to help you practice your pronunciation.
  • Global Road Warrior and A to Z World Travel – Quick and easy-to-navigate travel guides filled with all the essential information you need to learn about another country or foreign city. Includes passport and visa information, security briefings, embassy information, immunization and health tips as well as information about the culture and cuisine. Global Road Warrior provides information about an entire country while A to Z World Travel provides information about cities around the world.
  • Hoopla – One of the library’s most popular resources, hoopla boasts an impressive collection of travel guides that are available to you 24/7. Travel guides are provided for countries, cruises and some theme parks. You can even find guides to help you get started with an RVing hobby! To get started, download the hoopla app, setup your account and type a keyword in the search box.
  • Overdrive – Looking for travel eBooks? Then Overdrive is the tool for you! You can find a variety of travel books by popular publishers, such as Fodor and Lonely Planet. All you need to do is download the Overdrive app and sign in with your library card to get started.

No matter where your travels take you, the library has the tools you need to begin planning a memorable vacation. Staying in town this summer? Great! Check out our summer reading challenge which will be held from May 23rd to August 12th.

Have a rockin’ summer!
